An imagination is a terrible thing to waste. A child’s imagination is an extraordinary thing. It not only keeps them entertained but it engages their brains to think outside of the box in new and creative ways. Dress up and role play are a great way to encourage this. Like most young girls, my toddler loves to play dress up. She spends most days romping around in her princess dress. She also loves wearing hats. Anything that will fit on her head, she will wear.

One of our favorite crafts is making paper bowl hats. We have a whole drawer full of them. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we thought we would make some to celebrate the holiday.

What you will need

  • Paper plate
  • Paper bowl
  • Paint
  • Glue
  • Optional: ribbon, feathers, construction paper or foam, gem stones, etc.

How to make your fancy hat

Paint your hat in a color of your choosing and let it dry.

Add embellishments of your own choosing. For our hat we cut out foam hearts & glued them around the hat and added feathers to the top.

We also made a top hat style hat out of an empty tissue paper box, a paper bowl & ribbon.pic 5

Let your hats dry and then it is time for some fun.
